Outbound — Privacy Policy.
Last updated: October 27, 2026
Outbound Labs LLC, a California limited liability company ("Outbound," "we," "us," or "our"), operates the Outbound mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. By using the App you agree to this policy.
If you have questions, contact us at ceo@theoutboundapp.com.
Summary
- We collect the information you give us (email, profile, posts, trips) and your location, to run a social travel map that shows you who and what is nearby.
- We do not use analytics, advertising or tracking tools, and we do not track you across other companies' apps or websites. For crash reports we use Sentry, which receives no account, email, name, location or IP address.
- Your location is stored only in a blurred form (about 1 km) and is shown to other travelers only if you turn location sharing on.
- Lili, our AI travel concierge, is optional. What you give Lili (chat messages, trip descriptions, spoken expenses, receipt and booking photos) and the trip context we send with it go to Anthropic to generate her responses. Anthropic does not use it to train its models. Nothing is sent until you allow it, and you can avoid sending anything by not using Lili or by turning her off in Settings. We never send your name, email, photos, live location, Safety Kit or anything about other travelers.
- Outbound+ subscriptions are paid through Apple or Google. We never see your card details.
- Your Safety Kit (health card, travel documents, emergency contacts) stays on your phone, encrypted. We never receive it.
- You can edit your profile and delete your account and data at any time from within the App.
Information we collect
Account & contact information
- Email address: used to sign you in (one-time passcode) and, if you use Sign in with Apple, the email associated with your Apple Account (which may be a private relay address you control).
- Name: your username, and optionally a full name you provide or that Apple shares when you use Sign in with Apple.
Profile information you provide
- Profile photo, bio, travel style, interests, current status ("vibe"), countries and cities you have visited, your home city, and the name you give Lili.
Location
- Precise location (GPS), collected only while you use the App and only with your permission. It is used on your device to place you on the map and find what is near you. We store only a blurred location (about 1 km), plus the city and country it falls in. You can turn off location access in your device Settings and turn off location sharing in the App at any time.
- Street directions. When you ask for street directions to a nearby place, your device sends your current location and the places on the route straight to Mapbox to get that route, and again if you leave the route while following it with Go. It is not sent to our servers or to Lili, and the route is shown on your device and not stored.
- Lili and your city. Lili gets only the name of the city you're in, worked out on your phone from its location. Your position itself is never sent to Lili.
Content you create
- Posts, stories, comments, photos, messages, safety reports, local tips ("hacks"), prices you submit, city ratings and votes, trips and trip plans, and reports you file about other content.
- Stories last 24 hours. After that we delete the story and its photo or video. You can also delete your story sooner from the story itself.
- Photos you upload are resized and saved as JPEG on your phone before they're sent.
- City searches: when you search for a city or town that Outbound doesn't have a page for yet, we save that search with your account so we can build the page and prevent abuse.
Lili (AI concierge) — only if you use it
- Whether you allowed Lili or chose "Not now", and when, so your choice applies on every device.
- The questions you ask Lili and her answers, landing briefings and trip plans.
- When you describe a trip or say an expense to Lili, we keep Lili's draft (the stops, dates and stays, or the amount and category) and whatever you then save. The text you typed or dictated is not stored.
- Booking details Lili reads from an image, PDF or pasted confirmation email you choose to share, once you confirm them (for example flight number, times, airports, booking reference). The image itself is not stored.
- What Lili reads from a receipt photo you choose to scan (total, currency, date, shop name, a short description). The photo is not stored by us; if you choose, it's kept encrypted on your phone only.
Trips
- Trips you add and their itinerary items: dates, places, times, booking references and notes. Only you can see them. Booking references are visible only to you: they are never shown to other travelers, never included in anything shared, and never kept in Lili's logs.
- Your trip budget and expenses: amounts, currencies, dates, categories, a short description and the shop name if you add one, and the exchange rate used. Only you can see them. We keep these so you can see them again and so reported answers can be reviewed.
Safety Kit — stored only on your device
- Your health card (allergies, medications, conditions, blood type, doctor's notes), copies of travel documents (passport, ID, insurance, visas) and your emergency contacts are saved only on your phone, encrypted with a key kept in your phone's secure storage. They are not sent to Outbound, to Lili or to any translation service; the health card's translations are built into the App and work offline.
- SOS: when you tap "Text my location", the App reads your current location on your phone and puts it into a text message that opens in your messaging app. You choose whether to send it. Outbound does not receive it and does not contact anyone for you.
- Deleting the App removes your Safety Kit. There is no cloud backup of it today; if we add one, it will be off unless you turn it on, and this policy will say how it works.
Purchases — only if you subscribe
- Your purchase history and subscription status for Outbound+ (which plan, when it started and renews, trial status). Payment itself is handled by Apple or Google; we never receive your card or bank details.
Identifiers
- An account identifier we generate to maintain your account. It is also used to link your subscription to your account.
How we use your information
- To create and maintain your account and sign you in.
- To provide the App's features: the map, nearby travelers and events, city pages, your passport, trips, posts, messages and notifications.
- To show your profile, status, posts and blurred location to other travelers as part of the social features (location only if sharing is on).
- To answer your questions with Lili, if you choose to use it.
- To provide Outbound+ and check whether your subscription is active.
- To keep the App safe: preventing abuse, limiting how much one account can post in an hour, and reviewing reports. When someone reports content, our team reviews the report and the reported content and may remove it or suspend the account that posted it.
- To keep the App working: crash reports (see Sentry below) and debugging.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising or cross-app tracking.
How your information is shared
- With other users: your username, profile photo, bio, status, countries and cities visited, posts, comments, safety reports and tips you publish, and your blurred location (only if location sharing is on). Who wrote a safety report or tip is never shown to Lili.
- Supabase: hosts our database, sign-in and file storage on our behalf.
- Mapbox: provides the map and place search. Your device requests map tiles for the area you are viewing, and sends the place or city names you type in a search box (with the area you're searching near). When you ask for street directions, your device sends Mapbox your current location and the places on the route; we don't receive or store the route. Mapbox's telemetry is turned off in the App.
- Anthropic (the company that makes the Claude AI model) — only if you use Lili and allow it. Anthropic processes Lili's inputs to generate her responses:
- What you give Lili: your chat messages to her, phrases you translate, trips you describe (typed or dictated), expenses you say, receipt photos or booking images and PDFs you choose to share, and confirmation email text you paste. Files and pasted text are not stored; we keep only the bookings you confirm. Images are sent as they are and may contain whatever is on them (such as the name on a ticket); crop out anything you'd rather not share. Lili is told not to return names, emails, phone or payment details, and we don't keep the image.
- The trip context we send with it: the places, dates, stays and flights on the trip you're asking about, your home city and the name of the city you're in (worked out on your phone from its location; your position itself is never sent), your travel style, interests and vibe tags, the countries and cities you've marked as visited on your profile (so Lili can suggest what's new to you), and information Outbound already has about the place (places nearby, safety-report counts, local tips without their authors, weather history and forecasts, events, travel advisories, emergency numbers).
- Anthropic does not use this data to train its models. Under its commercial terms it may keep it for a limited time to operate the service and prevent misuse, then deletes it.
- We never send your name, username, email, photos, live (GPS) location, Safety Kit, health card, chats with other travelers, or any other traveler's information.
- You can avoid sending anything to Anthropic by not using Lili: choose "Not now" when she asks, or turn her off in Settings. Everything else in the App works without her.
- RevenueCat — only if you subscribe. Manages Outbound+ subscriptions on our behalf. It receives your account identifier, your purchase history and subscription status from Apple or Google, and basic device information needed to process the purchase. It does not receive your name, email or location.
- Sentry: receives crash reports so we can fix problems: the error, the screen it happened on, your device model, operating system and app version. We don't attach your account, email, name, location or IP address, and the App's logs aren't included.
- Email delivery (Resend): sends the one-time sign-in codes to your email address. When content is reported, it also emails our moderators the report, the reported content and the usernames involved.
- TikTok: city pages can show TikTok videos ("Watch before you go"). They play in TikTok's own player, which loads from TikTok when you open a video, so TikTok receives your device's IP address and the usual information a web browser sends, under TikTok's own privacy policy. We don't send TikTok your account details.
- Apple and Google: process Outbound+ payments under their own privacy policies. If you choose Sign in with Apple, Apple handles that sign-in.
- Place, map and city data services: to look up places, weather and city information we send place names or approximate coordinates of a city or area, never your account details, to: OpenStreetMap services (nearby places around an area of about 1 km, asked by our server; place names you type when Mapbox search is unavailable, and hotel or stay names you search for), Open-Meteo (weather for an area of about 1 km, asked by our server, never from your device), Wikipedia and Wikidata (city descriptions and photos), ExchangeRate-API (currency rates), Ticketmaster (events near an area of about 10 km), developers.events (a public events list), and the US National Weather Service, US Geological Survey and GDACS (official weather, earthquake and disaster alerts near an area, asked by our server). Some of these requests are made from your device, so the service sees your device's IP address, as with any website. Phrases you translate go to Lili (see Anthropic above); versions before 1.0.5 sent them to MyMemory instead.
- Legal: we may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, safety or integrity of our users or the App.
Data retention and deletion
We keep your information while your account is active. You can delete your account and associated personal data at any time from within the App (Account menu → Delete account). This also deletes your Lili questions, answers, briefings and plans, and the files you uploaded (profile photo, post photos, stories, memories and travel documents). You can also email ceo@theoutboundapp.com to request deletion.
Reports you filed are kept so we can act on them. If someone reports you and you later delete your account, the report stays without your account attached.
Deleting your account does not cancel an Outbound+ subscription. Cancel it in your Apple or Google account settings. Apple, Google and RevenueCat keep purchase records as required for tax and accounting.
Your choices
- Location: turn location access on or off in device Settings, and location sharing on or off in the App.
- Safety Kit: add, edit or delete your health card, documents and emergency contacts in the App; it all stays on your phone.
- Lili: Lili asks before anything is sent to Anthropic. Turn her on or off any time in the App (account menu → Lili (AI)). When she's off, nothing is sent to Anthropic.
- Profile: edit or remove profile details in the App.
- Subscription: manage or cancel in your Apple or Google account settings.
- Account: delete your account and data in the App at any time.
Children's privacy
Outbound is for adults. It is not directed to anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
We use industry-standard measures, including encryption in transit and access controls on our database, to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your data.
International users
Your information may be processed and stored in countries other than your own, including the United States, where data protection laws may differ.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will revise the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, provide notice within the App.
